Knitting Math Made Simple
Would you like to substitute yarns with ease? Do you wish you knew how to modify patterns because “standard sizes” don’t give you the best fit? These things are easily accomplished with a little simple knitting math.
In Knitting Math Made Simple, you’ll learn the basics of recalculating the numbers in patterns to accommodate any yarn with any gauge, or any measurement modification your heart desires. We will practice doing these calculations in class using any garment pattern you would like to bring with you, and you will leave with class hand-out pages that will help you remember the formula and procedure to use the next time you encounter a pattern you would like to modify.
Don’t be intimidated by knitting math - this class is for anyone who can use a calculator to do multiplication problems. No advanced math knowledge is necessary. And once you are able to comfortably modify patterns it unlocks a whole new world of possibilities for your handmade projects!
Materials to Bring to Class:
• Any garment pattern that you would like to practice modifying
• A swatch (If the swatch goes with the pattern you bring, then you can calculate real pattern modification numbers. If you bring a different swatch, you can learn how to practice calculating real modifications, you just won’t leave the class with a modified pattern you can use.) The swatch does not have to be made in the exact weight of yarn the pattern calls for, since calculating numbers to match a different gauge is one of the things we will practice.
• A gauge ruler
• A pencil
• The calculator app on your phone (or a calculator)
Due to a severe fragrance allergy, your instructor thanks you in advance for not wearing perfume or scented lotion to class.
